I'm consdering buying an 84 in nice shape for $1000.00 but it needs ball joints. Can anyone tell me where to find them and what they might cost? I would hate to pass this one up.

The SVO ball joints are non-servicable and requires that you replace the entire lower control arm. Lower control arms are obsolete. There are alternatives. D&D is making replacement control arms. Do a search for either the thread or look under 'members' (top right of your screen) - and contact Chris Roth (screen name: caroth)
Or - you can swap to SN95 suspension, and that requires modifications to fit.

As Bud said, you will have to find some sort of aftermarket or good used parts to replace the whole lower control arm on the SVO. With that replacement, the costs will be about 1/2 what you are buying the car for. Still, if you can get replacements, you will, like you said, have a nice car.
Check the for sale/wanted section of this forum.
There are also a couple of vendors to check with for NOS and good used parts. They are Paul Becker of SVPU (http://www.svpu.com/) and Jim Whelan at Motion Dynamics at (http://home.flash.net/~jewhelan/index.htm).
Both are reputable people very interested in the SVO. Unfortunately, the driver's side is now obsolete. The passenger's side is getting difficult to find. I got a new passenger's side from Paul. I got a set of used, low mileage LCAs off the for sale section of this forum for something like $150, so they are out there.
The LCAs that Chris Roth is working on getting manufactured are still in the testing stage. You should contact him, though to see where he is with them. I also have a set of those on order (wow, sounds like I am trying to corner the LCA market!!).
There is a solution out there, and there are choices, but you may have to wait to get the right part. If you can wait a while, I would say buy the car and start looking. If you have ever driven an SVO, you will know that these little issues are worth dealing with, ESPECIALLY for $1000!
Good luck!
