  • Powdercoated wheels

I would like something interesting for my latest 2R in the wheel department. I always liked the look of the Evolution car with the yellow wheels, but doing that would be such a rip off of Lee and Paul's work, that I was thinking of taking the spare set of SVO wheels and powdercoating them 2R color. I love the factory wheels on the SVO and I have a spare set of BFGs in the 225 60 15 size kicking around. Has anyone done this? Any pictures? Do you guys think it'll look too ghangsta?

Painting the whole wheel is a little gaudy, but I think the wheels look nice with painted insets. Something to consider.

My svo wheels were in bad shape in the cut open parts and I panited them black inside. Makes a nice look to an old wheel.
Lots of surface area there and not much to break up the color.
Might look good on the 4E, or maybe not.
Time to clean up the engine bay!

I'm doing a set up in satin black soon...can't beat the anti-bling factor of a flat black wheel set.

            powered coating

I am new to this sight but I got all 4 of my svo wheels powered coated jet black with the center caps painted bright red I am looking for bright red lug nuts now. It is your car if you like it do it. If you want to see pictures on how the look send me an email and I will send you a picture. The best way for the powered coat to stick is to have the wheels sandblasted first. I can get the wheels sand blased for about $50.00 for all 4. And I can get them powered coated for $25.00 per wheel and $2.00 per center cap. In Farmington Missouri. Thank You

Send me a pic. svobrown@direcway.com I'll post it for you if you would like.
After thinking about it the med grey would look cool that way.

Well if you powered coated the lug nuts it would change the size of the lug nuts and when you tightened the lug nuts it would have a chance of cracking the powered coating.

IMHO, too much of one color is not good.. I do like the idea of painting the pockets the same color as the car.. That would add some flash..

I think there are pictures on here of someone with black OEM wheels....I just gotta look I suppose...painting the lug nuts and holes a color to match the body in my book is so 1980's, but I suppose if that's what you are looking for, go for it. I'm looking for a more updated subtle look. Heck if I like it on the SVO I may do my white 89lx's ponies, Excursion(black) and the wife's silver pathfinder...kind of a trademark thing. Bling is dead.

                          Not sure now..

It sounds overwhelmingly like the consensus is that it'll look crappy all red. I do like the dull black wheel treatment, but not for my own car. Living in the snow belt, you see too many cars with black steelies on for winter tires and the black wheel look often makes me think of that.

I think a really neat forum might be a picture gallery for different wheels on our cars, kind of like the parts picture gallery. Might be a one stop shop to see the wheel/tire size, mfg and installation. Just a thought

Matching wheel color to body color is kind of rice-y in my opinion. I have a red miata with red BBS-style wheels. I get a lot of flack about it but I like them. It's ok for a jap car. I don't know about on an SVO though, that would be a pretty solid chunk of color. Might want to see if someone can photoshop it for you first.
