  • Which tire do you guys reccomend?

Which tire would you guys reccomend for the track, the BFGoodrich drag radials or the Mickey Thompson ET streets?

when you say track, I assume you mean road track/auto-x, because they are certainly different from drag strip tires.

    Let us know..

Eric - he means Drag Racing in this case.

SVO-Smitty. Though I've never drag raced a SVO. I have thrashed my 94 Cobra a bit. I've used both of the above mentioned.

The BFG Drag Radials (in my opinion) are a waste of money if you're serious about wanting turn out a nice 60ft at the track - get the ET streets.

        Which Tire

In my opinion if your talking soley for the drag strip I would get a real set of slick's. I did have at one time a M/T treaded tire of some sort (on my 88 5.0) and was not very happy with it.

It's been along time since I had any, but as you can see on my (long gone) 88 5.0 I had real slicks. If you want to hook up it's the way to go.

I had 26X8 slicks (i cant remeber if they were Mickey Thompson's or Goodyears). I dont know what they offer now-a-days for the 16 or 17 inch rims.

I was talking about the drag strip. I agree with the slicks, but the drag strip here will not allow you to run 1/4mile with slicks. I think I'm going to buy the Mickey Thompsons. Thanks guys.

What kind of drag strip won't let you run slicks in the 1/4 mile?!? never heard of that one before....

Anyway, if you want a drag radial type of tire...I would recommend the Nitto over the BFG....

              Which Tire

One other drawback to slicks is most tracks (if not all, and it is a good idea) will require you to use a driveshaft loop. If I recall correctly that required me to drill holes in my floorpan of my 5.0. At this point I dont see myself drilling any non factory holes in the floor of my SVO.

What did you guys think of that wrinkle wall on the slick. I love that picture.

SVOPaul, the name of the dragstip is Coastal Plains Dragway, Richlands, NC. If you run slicks, they will only allow you to run 1/8 mile.

local tracks here have 'street car night' once a week - you're not allowed to run slicks....only DOTs.

I was going to say the tires on that 5.0 weren't too good, cause the sides were all wrinkley!!!

If they will let you use the ET Streets you might think about going with some Hoosier Quick Time Pros. They make a set that fits stock SVO wheels very well with no clearance problems at all.

McCreary (i think thats the spelling?) make a decent dot tire too. the funny thing is that it's suppose to be a dirt tire. a couple of people around here run them and like them.
...so you have a V8......isn't that cute....

try a set of NITTO 555R drag radials.... they are supposed to be the best drag radial on the market. I just got a set but have not put them on the car yet-
