  • engine noise

i purchased a 86 svo about 6 months ago and have done a few things to improve it. cold air induct, new hoses, bigger throttle body, ported and polished upper and lower intake just to name some of the bigger things. lately around 3,000 rpm in every gear the car sputters just for a sec then it is ok, even if i am getting on it or just driving it. another thing is it had a real bad tap. ive ripped almost the entire engine apart but found nothing wrong there is also a noticable loss of power . i dont know what else to do if any one has any ideas i would appreciate it
    thanks

without hearing it, it is hard to tell what it is.

if you have the knock sensor connected, that sounds like what your hesitation may be.. especially if you are hearing a tapping noise (the knock sensor hears that too)

That tap could be a lifter, or even a rod, but that is something you do want to find out what it is, as it could be serious, and get worse, and cause serious problems.

they make a stethescope (like doctors use to listen to your heart) that you can pick up cheaply at auto-part stores,,, believe it or not, it can help tell where something like this is coming from.

thanks alot for the input . the knock sensor is the one that connects on the forward part of the upper intake and if it helps i just replaced all the o rings and seals on all of my injectors because one was leaking. one of my c clamps was all worn out and broke when i pulled it out i put the injestor back in without it and it seemed to fit correctly. allittle after that is when the tapping started
      thanks

well...I was going to suggest looking at your injectors before I read this. Ya might look at them anyway...never know.

2nd thing I would check would be timing....again, just a hunch..

I think that the stock intercoolers have been known rattle in the brackets. They had some sort of bushing in them that brakes apart and makes a bad rattle.Where the top bracket meets with the bottom bracket.

Does it tap when you are not driving it? Does it only do it when you drive?

The reason that I ask is I went through the same thing once, my car sounded like it had a wrist pin knocking and "AFTER" pulling the engine back out and going through it again to check it out we found that I had chipped a tooth on the input shaft of of the transmission and in any gear but 4th it would make a terrible ticking sound. Fourth is not run through the gear cluster and it takes the trans out of the equation.

Just a thought and something to try.
