  • help with $ of exhaust mods

I am getting ready to purchase a 3' downpipe and I know how much that helps out, but what is a reasonable cost for one as well as a reasonable cost for an E6 manifold and a larger wastgate? There is a local shop that does a lot of SVO and turbo work and the owner has an 86 SVO putting out around 385hp at the wheels. He knows what he is doing and told me that he can get me a 3' downpipe for about $125 from one of his distributors, but I can't remember the name of the company. He said it will need to be fitted correctly, but he has the tools to make it fit tight. I have driven his SVO and can really tell the difference from before and after and the fit is tight and doesn't rub or hit anything. He won't charge for the bending part and I am going to help him, so he is not gonna charge me labor. Does that sound reasonable?
Also, he has an e6 manifold and a wastegate actuator(sp?) that he will sell me for what he got them for,$75 for both. I don't know what the wastegate is off of, but he said it is much larger than the stock one and the downpipe will fit better to it. Is that a reasonable cost? He has always been fair to me and is going to let me work with him as he works on my car so I can learn about SVO's. I figure $200 is pretty good for those mods. Thanks for all of the help guys.

Those are actually excellent pricing. Especially on the DP w/no cost on labor. Not too sure about having to "re bend" it so it'll fit though. There's DPs out there that fit VERY nice right out of the box. But, the pricing he's charging - and it's a professional/reputable shop - I wouldn't hesitate getting it. Nice pricing on the E6/wastegate as well - but will he be installing them for a 'no cost' on labor as well?

No labor either. Of course I plan to help with the small stuff and I might clean up his shop a little while he's working. Ok...so it's not completely free labor, but it's a good deal for me!
I've read the other posts on the downpipes, but no one mentions how much the different ones are or where I can find the distributors. Any help there Bud?
I hope my 4e will look good soon and I would love to drive it to the reunion next year. There is a guy around here who collects Shelby's, Bosses and SVOs. I talk to him every so often and next time I see him I'll tell him about your car for sale. I have seen his Shelby's but not his SVOs, they have to be nice for him to own them though.

BTW: the downpipe I got was from sacramento mustang, and it was about $120... BUT-- it is not stainless, it is alluminized pipe, that is why I said about right on that price... if the one you are getting is stainless, that is a KILLER deal.

I wish I had got mine from SVPU, I get taunted about my crappy downpipe all the time

            where's the PICS??

Ok....I am not great with computers, so I don't know how to post pics. I've tried before but they are too big. I resized them and still couldn't get them to post. I'll try again, but it probably won't work. Remember, my car is a work in progress.

SVOsocool, your pic works. Nice looking project.

The pic is still huge (1200x1000 pixels I believe). Try resizing pics to 640x480 when posting them, since that is what will fit on most folks' monitor screens w/o having to scroll. Also, that pixel size should shrink the file size greatly.

That price is only 'nice' because the installation is included. Quality DPs sell for less....and with shipping, would end up being about the same price that sooocooool is getting his for.

                          My advice...

If you plan on attending the Reunion - call Paul at SVPU - pre pay for a DP and pick it up while you're at the event.

i figured he would be getting them fairly cheap, i will not be able to make the reunion because i am just getting the car this week and it looks horrible which is why im getting a deal on it, ill do some engine work, then make it look a little betetr and probably be there next year. how much does he sell them for, do i get a disount ofr anything since im on svoca?

not bringin it cause it doesn't look good enough? piss-poor excuse if you ask me. I've seen SVOs in the past that drove 8 hrs one way to be there - with a primer paint job, no interior, running on 3 cyls - and it wasn't an isolated incident...and no, I'm not joking.

My favorite were the 2 young guys from Texas...who drove all night - hung out all day at the show - then jump right back in their SVOs and drove all that night back home. Don't think they had told anyone they were going on a road trip... classic!

Trust me - if it's running - and you have the time....then you don't want to put it off till next year.

As for pricing and discounts from SVPU - go to the source. 205.629.3126
