  • Flywheel questions

Can someone tell me the number of teeth on the flywheel. I had a Aluminum flywheel from Esslinger and it had 35 teeth. I took it out and put a steele on in from Napa it had 132 teeth and bound up the starter. I want to put another Steele one in. I am at a loss. Where could I pick one up. I have none at the JY. Thanks Ernie

Ernie, I know this doesn't answer your question but did you not like the aluminum one and that is why you are replacing it with a steel one?

      Try searching here:

      http://car-part.com/

You can narrow the search to TN.

Merlin, I ruined the flywheel when I got it too hot.

I believe it was 98 when they went to the 2.5

So you are saying that it might not be a worthwhile upgrade???? Curious because I am replacing all the driveline stuff now. Thanks

                worthwhile?

Merlin, I am not saying it is not worthwhile! My car ran hard with the flywheel. I am just saying that I didn't have a strong enough clutch . I tore it up on the drag strip when i hoooked slicks to it. If I had been running the SPEC 3+ as I am running right now, it would have been a different story.

Ernie, thanks, I was on the fence with this one having never experienced it. I'll take your word and go for the aluminum fidanza flywheel and a SPEC stage 2.

If you become a member here, you will get your money back (and then some) on purchases made from our endorsed vendors, which, include the SPEC products.
You also should talk to Star clutch to ensure you get the right clutch for your application...unless you already know it.

Ernie, Star clutch offers an aluminum flywheel for the spec clutch.

                      Flywheel

Ok guys the fix for the flywheel problem was replaced it with a Ford used one I found in JY and had it resurfaced. It cranks and sounds normal. Thanks for all the help! So don't buy a "Performance" brand flywheel the ring gear is wrong. I got this flywheel at Advance Auto and NAPA. the part number was 50-703.

                        So how many teeth?

So how many teeth SHOULD the SVO flywheel have? A have a Fidanza alum one to go in now and it has 132 teeth. Do I need a different one?? I don't want the car down for too long while I scramble to get different parts if I need them.

                        Thanks, Jim

Jim, you should be good. Advance website says 132 teeth on the flywheel they provide.

Are you trying to reduce mass or ??? Reason I mention it is I used a old Mini stock trick on a stocker wheel. Just shave the backside off .250 . Also you can have the wheel ground down a good .060 without any troubles on the clutch side.
