I don't get it, my open face Bell Mag4, which I've had for 7 years is not listed at SA2005 compliant, but on Pegasus' and Bells web sites it says it is? Any ideas? I just printed the pages from Bells catalog and I'll bring them with me in case I have to prove it. Would this be enough.
I remember watching a NASCAR race a few years back. It was the road race at Watkins Glen. Geoff Bodine didn't make the turn after the front straight, basically drove into the tire barrier at over 100 mph. In-car camera was on, an it showed that GB's head hit the steering wheel when he crashed..this with full race harnesses. GB was wearing the first Simpson full faced helmet, basically the open faced one with a large eyeport and lower face protection...IIRC he said he was lucky to have that helmet on. This incident converted me to full faced helmets.
At Pacific Raceways (Seattle, WA) last year at the Ride-N-Drive, a 67 Mustang driver loses it and rams the pit wall...he wasn't wearing a full faced helmet...jaw went into the steering wheel...the steering wheel had an impression of the driver's jaw....lucky it didn't break his jaw.
I currently have a SA2000 Bell M4, switching to a SA2005 SR-Pro in the future.
Get a helmet with the latest Snell SA2005 rating. I suggest full faced.
I also have Nomex socks, Nomex racing gloves, long sleeve Nomex upper, Nomex balaclava, Nomex race shoes and Nomex coveralls when I open track. I guess I'm paranoid...something about burning to death scares me.

A few years back? Holy Cow, if it is the crash I recall that was back when he was still driving the Levi Garret car. ( i believe maybe 87 or 88?)
Of course I am sure most probably remember Jimmie Johnson;s Busch crash there where he flew into the styrofoam block.
Then of course you have Tommy Kendalls gruesome crash there in the Chevy Interpid GTP car (I think that was the cars name) which is the reason for the inner loop chicane
And of course J.D. McDuffies crashc which resulted in his death at W.G.
First Nascar race I attended was at the Glen in 1992. I love that place and Mid Ohio. Someday I want to get to Road Atlanta and Elkhart Lake.

Currently without a SVO or Mustang.
Mustangs I have Owned: 79 Cobra 2.3 Turbo, 88 LX 5.0 Notchback, 86 SVO 2R.

I raced there the same years as those incidents. JD went off exactly where I did at the end of the long straight. He was the reason for the inner loop. I got off cheap, missed the tire wall by inches and continued. ESPN caught my escapade, and my wife has it on Beta somewhere. Francois Cevert ended his F-1 career there in a Tyrrell in the previous decade. He was decapitated.
I worked for Tommy's dad and remember his incident well. He went off in turn 2 or 3. His lower legs were folded over. One leg is now shorter than the other.
I'll repeat the old saying:
"So what is your head worth?"
IIRC any Snell-rated helmet from 1995 and newer is acceptable by the organizing body (but I've not rec'd any notification on paper so this information is only hearsay). Not too long ago I donated several SA1995 and M1995 helmets cause I thought they were too old to be used - kinda like 5 year old tires with only 2000 miles on them.
Mike, according to my paperwork that I have here, they do list that SA95 or M95 helmets are good enough.. Again, I do agree with the fact that every 5 years that they should be updating the standards.. That would be like driving on poly-glass tires.. They were great at the time that they came out, but are far below the standards for today..

That is just one more reason the HANS device is used now.....
There's only one brand helmet that I'll ever buy in the future. Arai. They are the best. I have a Arai Signet $379 solid black. It was tested, it helped save my life!
