  • Still problems with my SVO

    Hello everyone,
I wish I could make it to the reunion and bring my car there but...
I am having difficulties with it that are driving me crazy.

My main problem is the computer.
    It will not read.
SVONO50 tried to check it this summer and it did not respond.
    What could that mean?
Is there another way to tap into the computer?
It also drinks gas like crazy!!!
    worst than a V8.
It has been punched (some may remember my post) .060 over.
And it has no pickup, It can barely get out of its own way.
There are a lot of vibrations almost like it is out of time?????
The boost won't go over 5/6 LBs (the needle shakes like crazy)

The strange thing is... that sometimes it runs smooth.
    Real smooth.
Usually while I am driving it runs smooth (I think in higher RPMs) and then it suddenly goes to crap.
To keep it running on its own we had to crank the idle screw really high and this only lets it idle.
these are the parts it has now.

    Has Now
Big valve head. 1.59/1.89, 5 angle vavle job, Magna fluxed
bored over .060 (Dosen't overheat yet)
    TRW Pistons, forged rods
    Balanced crank & Pistons,rods
    A234 Cam
    ported exhust manifold
    water cooled turbo
    new clutch
    New Konis (Reds)
    new lowering springs
    caster & camber plates
    Pro 5.0 shifter

    waiting to be installed
    3" cat & 3"muffler
    new double hump cross member
    TB innercooler ("Maybe" mixed reviews)

    Want
    sub frame connectors
    strut tower brace
    35# injectors or 42#
    Adjustable boots controler
    Alum. Drive shaft
    lower brace
    white face guages
    65 mmTB
    Adjustable fuel pump
    86 computer

Sorry for thew long post but I really want this to run good again.
I used to have so much fun driving it.

I have had this for about 10 years, and slowly gathered these parts. I don't ever want to part with it.

    can anyone help?
you guys have always come through in the past.
    thanks

Hmmm ..diagnosing over the internet....it'll all just be a big guess, but here goes...

The computer problem - not sending codes...
    1. The computer is dead
    2. There's some bad wiring issues

    Engine running like crap/rich/low boost
    1. Timing - reset your cam. Ask Ted to help you
    2. Check the timing belt - it may have some stripped teeth
    3. who installed the cam in the first place?

double hump cross member? what for?

You never mentioned the year of the car?

Bud, Marc's car is an 84 model.

Marc's car has a lot of questionable wiring and missing insulation in various areas. I am not trying to dis his SVO, but it does need a bit of help to get it back running right. When I went to help him out we had 115 degree heat indicies that day, so it wasn't optimum for working on a car in an asphalt parking lot. Further more I forgot a few tools when I packed up a kit and headed over. We were able to check the cam timing and it was right on the marks, so we initially ruled out that item.

What I would be looking for is some pinpoint things to look at for getting the car to spit out some codes to maybe get a starting point. It would be nice to trace down a couple specific items w/o having to tear into the entire harness, although that may be needed.

humm.. sounds like you just need to print out the pinouts and diagrams , and sit down with a volt meter, a big roll of tape, some solder, and several gaugeges, (and colors would be nice) of new wire...
