What would cause the windshield wipers to work with switch turned off? and even after the key is turned off?

    Check

    Gary,
I believe you have a bare wire that is completing a ground to the wiper motor.

      I had that happen before...

the wife left the window down on my 82, and it got wet. So my bet is

the switch has completly shorted out.. or the switch has some moisture in it.

You might try swapping the windshield switch, I believe Paul @ SVPU has them. I'm not sure they are still avaiable from ford..

        Gary,

Had a 99 Ranger one time that did the same thing. Every time I would make a left turn , the wipers would come on. It was a recall thing, and I know that they replaced the switch. What caused it? don't know.. but I would bet that the switch is bad.

        My 1 1/2 cents worth..
