  • Rear Brake Rattle

I have a 84 SVO with a strange rattle coming from the rear rotors/brakes. If I am driving on a smooth surface there is no rattle, but when I hit a bump there is a rattle. If I hit the same bump with the brakes applied there is no rattle. I have checked all a round the rotors/brakes and everything seems to be tight. Does anyone have any ideas what this annoyance could be?????

there are a set of clips that go on the rear pads that should keep them from rattling....
I believe they are even called anti-rattle clips.

if they aren't there, that might be your problem.

      Thanks Eric....

I will check for the clips. Would the pads have movement/play without the anti-rattle clips?

they will move a bit... if they move too much, then the calipers need to be adjusted...

I cant remember the amount of play they should have, it is in the manual tho..

There is a special adjusting tool that basically screws the piston in and out to adjust how close the pads are the rotor.

          Eric,

You were correct.....I am missing the anti-rattle clips. Any idea who might sell them?

          Thanks for your help

I was also missing them, you might your local stores. on a long shot, autozone might have them, if not, a place like napa might be able to order them for you.

If you have no luck, call Paul,@ SVPU
