  • No A/F meter and fuel question

During our reunion at the track on Friday, I'm bringing some Tolulene and would like to run about 100 octane. No problems there.

My question is, anyone know a safe realm for adding boost? I don't want to go lean for sure. I defineately don't want to damage the car, I wanna drive it home.

I've been running 18 psi on 93 octane for the last 6 months - no probs. If I have no pinging at 22 psi (w/ the raised octane) will I still have enough fuel?

Am I just listening for pinging? Is there a threshold or guide that I can "feel" for with the car to know if I'm running out of fuel?

    All thoughts and input appreciated.

I've added an autometer boost guage to my steering column temporarily to fine tune the boost so I'm not guessing using the stocker.

    Stock Turbo?

I cant speak as to wether you'll have enough fuel but 22 psi with a stock turbo is supposed to be upper limit of effeciency. I ran 20 PSI all summer long on 94 octiane and had no audible detonation or fuel starvation issues.

Coming from a guy that has detonated a motor I gotta warn you that by the time you hear pinging you're too late. Damage can occur without even hearing a knock. At those kind of boost pressures at W.O. throttle if you lean out for even a second (100 fires @ 6k rpm) it's toast. I believe even the knock sensor (which is far more sensitive than your ear) is only retarding ignition and that may not even react in time. You are risking a very big dissapointment for a marginal gain. Also, if you're aiming for 20lbs you might be spiking to 24. To get in the 20psi+ range there are a lot of other things that should be done first, especially having an expert modify your fuel and timing management
