  • spoiler repair

I just finished the thread on painting the spoiler, what about repair of the upper wing. I'm starting to see separation along the seem and of course like an old man, drooping in the midddle. I saw aftermarket supports(can't remeber where) and thought they may help. Its also starting to crack along the bottom outside bends (where it slopes toward the lower). I have some hysol that we use on helicopter blades but might be to brittle. Any help...suggestions greatly appreciated.

You probably won't see Lee here since his work has him buried and he has no internet at home. You can email Lee at evolutionsvo@hotmail.com or call him at work at 800-394-2774, ask for Lee Clary. He does a fantastic job at repairing these wings and from what I have seen, ANYTHING is repairable...he even added new feet to an upper wing once and he has even made a mold to duplicate that lower tab that always breaks off....drop him a line.

I'm getting a quote on replacing all of the mounting posts on my wing.

The two upper wing posts, and all of the lower ones too. Mine was held on by 3 lower posts, and the 4 sheet metal screws in the top wing. A shop next door to my office does sonic welding on plastic parts, and my be able to repair them. I told them that if they could do it reasonably priced, that I'd probably be able to bring him some business.

My top wing was in good shape, no splitting. th only problem was that the mounting studs, and one of the little screw hole tabs were broken.
My bottom wing was missing most of the mounting posts and the ones that were left, had been repaired with who knows what!
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

Keep in mind that plastic welding may repair your broken studs on the lower wing for now but the fact is that they are all brittle from age and a best prevention would be to reinforce them to prevent future problems. Lee has this industrial epoxy that bonds to anything even with no surface preperation(you need serious ventilation for this stuff though!). I had him reinforce all my mounting areas with this epoxy to prevent future problems.

                seeking second opinion

I know more people have run into this problem then just me.

The plastic where the mounting studs screw into each side of my upper wing has split apart at both studs. I'm wondering what the best repair technique is for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

                thanks,
