  • Question about exhaust/downpipe

This is my first time posting on here. Im 19 and i bought a 1986 mustang svo about 3 months ago. I got it for 800 bucks, and its really not in that bad of shape. The guy i bought it from thought that he had broke the timing belt, or that the motor had blown. But, i got it to my house, and a new battery did the trick. I have done odd and end things to it since then just to get it driveable, but now im goin for modifications. I took the old e3 manifold and turbo off, and found that both were cracked. I bought an e6 off of ebay for around 170 and it was in good shape. I just went today and got the local turbo shop to start building a t3/t4 hybrid with a stage 2 exhaust housing. The question i have is- I have been looking for a downpipe that bolts straight to the turbo, but has the wastegate flap. The only one that i really considered was 40bobs.com w/ the 3" pipe. Well when i was telling them what i wanted today at the turbo store, and he told me that he could do a turbo that has the same wastegate and same flap on the downpipe like the one i had. Well, it is only a 2" pipe though, and i was really wanting to get a 3". I guess the pipe comes out of the turbo and goes about 6 inches and does a 90 degree turbo down and about another 4" of 2" pipe and then into i guess where u bolt on the rest of your exhaust. How restrictive is 2" compared to 3"? and should i just try to get one off of the internet? And also, the downpipe that comes with this turbo doesn't have a place for the o2 sensor. How hard is it to (or can u) tape into the pipe and put it in yourself?

Do the 3". Your this far on a good deal and you don't want to go backwards.
Save up a few more pennys and go with you first idea.
Your T3/T4 will work much better with it.

Sounds like you got a deal on the svo. now post some pic's. Do it right!!!!!

I second that emotion.HAHA. No, but seriously, like Kerry said these engines like to breathe. 3" is really the only way to open up the perfromance box that you've just purchased. They are alot of other options to achieve what components you want. In fact if you private message me, I will give you the link to several ways to set up your turbo, wg and downpipe. With a hybrid turbo, the last thing you want to do is choke it off with such a small & restrictive pipe.

        HI

Check out http://www.stinger-performance.com/s...rformance.html, I bought the setup that included the 3" downpipe and intermediate pipe that splits into dual 2.5" tubing for dual mufflers. The downpipe I got bolts to the stock elbow but there are several options on the website.
I took everything to a local exhaust shop and had them weld in a 3" high flow cat (need one for emissions in MD) and they mated up a Maga Flow 2.5" dual stainless system that is for the 5.0 liter Mustangs. Anyway, it turned out nice.

Here are some pic's for you. THe old turbo was from Evergreen 5 or 6 years ago. GN clipped and upgraded 60 trim I think. Still good just wanted to change to this one.
Has the new cup style exhaust side machined to match the .63 with a stage 2 57 trim. THis one should flow better than the first turbo. Spool faster also! New parts are better than the first ones
The down pipe was made 3 years ago and held up very well. Stainless elbow welded with a mig stainless wire.
Had to make a new down pipe since I move the turbo forward 3". The oil return line almost didn't work.
