IS ANYONE RUNNING DUAL FANS OUT OF TURBO TBIRD ON THERE SVO?IF SO IS IT WORTH IT AND HOW HARD WAS IT TO WIRE IN?

  • #2
I'm using them. They work great! I used the Imperial relay kit from Autozone. You need to buy another in-line fuse holder and 25 Amp fuse. The wiring is so simple. The part number on the kit is: 226204, if I'm not mistaken. If you go to Autozone and ask for it, they should have it. It's a normal stock item. I work there part-time . If you want a picture, let me know. I will post one.

Hey marine guy... how do you have them hooked up??

Do they both kick on at the same time, or do yiou have them setup to kick one first, then the second ??

They both come on at the same time. I have a 195 thermostat and I have the fans kick on at about 185. They only run for a few seconds then shut off. About a minute later the cycle again and so on.

I have the dual fans. All I did was clip off the connectors and splice all the wires together. Both the fans come on and go off together and are working fine.

High Roller, do they spin pretty fast? I would think that if they were in series like that the efficiency wouldn't be as high. I know that if you use a relay in the system the fans will be more efficient. It allows both fans the benifit of the same voltage. Also, if you burns a fuse you lose both fans. The relay circuit allows the other fan operation since they are seperatly fused.
            Food for thought, I guess.

You have a wiring diagram for that, or are you using existing relays?

I am using the existing relay. Basically the way mine is wired is I took the hot wire from each fan and connected them to the power lead and did the same with the ground. In other words, one fan isn't run through the other.

My line of thinking on the backup concept is that if I blow a fuse with the single fan, there is no backup anyway.

BTW: they spin at about the same rate as the stock fan did

Groovy, if it works for you...go with it. It's alot cheaper that way. The relay, extra fuse holder and fuse is about $40. If you ever do decide to run a multi fan relay, don't go to Advance Auto Parts. Theirs was $64 for the relay alone!
