  • Forced 4 vs. Motion dynamics CAI?

I'm torn between going for the motion dynamics cold air intake that goes inside the fender well or forced 4's custom setup which costs a little more. I've read good reviews for both which makes this a tough decision. Does anyone have any advice on which would be better? If they're basically the same I'll probably go for forced 4 mostly for greater ease of cleaning the filter.

Oh man, is that a LOADED question or what?!? They are both sponsors! Who do we recommend without offending? I say they both answer with their best opinions and let the buyer judge. Oh, uh, other than that, I can't answer your question.........

...that's what makes this so tough. They're both great dealers and I trust the quality of their products. I just don't know the comparative benefits between these two cold air intake setups. Right now I'm leaning towards the cheaper price.

Yes it is a PITA to get up in the fenderwell to get the filter off for cleaning, and it gets dirty faster in there. We decided on this approach to get as much cool air as possible.

        Again, personal preferences.

If you can't decide, flip a coin, just as long as you get one from either one of us.

        Thanks,

It really isn't that hard to access the filter in the fender, and it only needs cleaning a few times a year anyway. I like having it put away myself.

I can't report on the FORCED4 one. I have the MD and love the sound it makes when you get on the gas with it in the fender. That may be due to the fact the sound deadening material is no longer in the fender well. It's still in the drivers side though?!?!

If it's in the fender it makes it easier to pass smog

I've had the motion Dynamics one for 2-3 years and have no complaints at all! I had to modify it to fit Forced 4's Bypass kit but that was obviosuly my choice to add on. I am very happy with both products! I only have to clean the filter about once a year but its not a daily driver.

I'm gonna have my car dynoed after the new year, I'd be willing to do a couple runs with each installed and send them back to who ever let me borrow them and post the results. If either makes significant power over my MAC setup I'll buy the better one.

I've got the forced4 one, but I only have .001 miles on it (I pushed it out of the driveway, and back again)

I bought the forced four one, because it works with the bypass valve right out of the box. -- I'm pretty happy with the install, but don't have any real-world experience with it yet.

The Realspeed guys are at PRI this week, I'll get more info next week on how to work the whole thing.

Edit.. to really do it right I should put the stock airbox back on too I suppose...looks like I am gonna have to take the day off to do it all right....but it will be worth it.

I've installed the forced4 kit but not the MD kit. From the photo of the MD kit, it appears that it only would fit on an 86. The 84 85 85.5's don't have the oval hole on the inner fender panel. Anyone doing a comparison test should make sure that this info is included in the test results so that interested 84-85 owners who don't want to cut holes in the unit body are aware of that.
