BTW, could you please trim your signature line down a bit... 4 lines is plenty.

I've never had one apart. Nor do I know how to diesect one or think anyone makes a kit to rebuild one.

I'm trying to think if there's anything in there that could be rebuilt. It's not spring loaded...or anything like that.

You know Ford "knocked off" the design on all factory shifters used from 87-up Mustang T-5s, right? Hurst backed that up with their 'new and improved' designed that included a shorter throw, shorter shifter arm, and positive stops.

Personally - I wouldn't waste the time and effort in rebuilding a factory shifter on a SVO for anyhing less than a ground up concours restoration...and then, I would attempt to find a NOS one. You could probably find a used - good working - one out there for alot less time/effort/money than trying to 'fix' yours. If you want to keep the original arm/shifter height/knob - then you can use a later model base and install your factory handle (with the use of the Steeda bushing kit).

Thanks for the input bud.My shifter is just feeling a little spongey.Wandered if their was something that went bad in them.
I am useing the handle from a 87 in mine now the 84 hurst handle was tall and in the way of my radio the handle is mounted soildedly to the hurst shifter i did away with the rubber bushings long ago.

well - I would suggest contacting some of the Mustang Salvage places and get yourself a take off 87-93 model shifter base. They should be cheap...heck, no one seems to want them anymore.

My advice though is - if you can scrounge up the extra coinage - get a Kirban shifter. You'll never be sorry you did.

does steeda make a tri-ax for the SVO t-5?

i have one on the T-45 in my cobra and love it, but my svo shifts like a truck and i dont want to leave it out...

all shifters designed to fit a Ford T-5 will fit the SVO's stock transmission...which is a T-5 as well. Your stock shifter knob, however, will not. Different threads. You can use knobs from other Mustangs though (like the leather Cobra knobs or billet Bullit knobs) or any aftermarket knob designed for a standard LX or GT Mustang shifter handle
