    Would you believe my original mufflers are starting to rust out!

    What is a good OEM type replacement for the mufflers? Need something to match the originals in size because the pipes are fine, should be able to pull-apart and replace only the mufflers. Yeah right!

    Since the car is stock & original, I would like to keep the duals as close to OEM as possible. What are you guys using on your '85 1/2's and '86's???

    Thanks;

    Tom

    The stock cat-back system is 2 1/4" with offset in/out mufflers. The direct replacement would be Walker Dynomax mufflers which I think were the OEM style they used. Otherwise most mufflers of the same size and inlet outlet should fit with minor work such as Flowmasters, Magnaflow, Dynomax Super Turbos/Ultra Flows, among others. If you liked the way it sounded stock then stick with the Dynomax. If it were me I'd go with a straight through muffler such as Magnaflow or Dynomax Ultra Flows. Also you can try searching for 'Mufflers' because I'm sure this has been covered. Good Luck.

      Make sure you measure the length of each muffler before ordering replacements! Ever since Ford first put duals on Fox Mustangs, the muffler lengths have been slightly different to cut down on resonance, or drone as it is popularly called, in the exhaust system. You can use the same length muffler, but the hangers usually don't line up correctly unless your exhaust shop is patient enough to properly fit the mufflers with some extra tubing.

      Most brands of aftermarket mufflers come in a few different lengths for a given in/out size and location, so finding the proper fitting muffers shouldn't be too difficult.
