  • boost help...

OKay so I have an 86 SVO STOCK with a new t3-t4 hybrid turbo. Now to the problem... I get boost at 2700-3000 rpm, I floor it when its about 3000 boost comes and it feels hesitant for some reason. I'm not sure how to describe it. If I slowly step on it, it doesn't feel like its hesitating. Is there a problem or is it the way I'm driving?

still have your knock sensor hooked up? Big Turbo and everything else still being stock? sounds like it's spiking - causing the knock sensor to take over until it smooths out.

I have my boost set to 18 being how the rest of the system is stock. I'm not trying to be a fool here but where is the sensor located so I can check, I havn't disconnected it but I wanna check to see if its loose.
      Any way to fix it?

now that i think about it... When I did the turbo swap I broke the boost control soliniod, beyond repair, the solinoid split in half when I was tryign to take the perm. vacuum clamps off the lines leading to it. Would this have any effect on it, I coupled the vacuum lines together for the time being until i get a boost controller.... if this helps...

YES - that would seriously affect it and that would be the problem. How do you 'set' or control boost levels if all you have is the two lines coupled together? Answer: you don't. Go buy a manual boost controller and install it. You are experiencing "over boost" - with a big-a** boost spike - causing a serious lean condition (could result in a blown head gasket/burnt piston/etc) - causing the KS to pick up detonation - causing the computer to compensate (as much as it can).

          I prefer the one that www.turborepair.com sells - here's a pic of it - http://www.turboxs.com/images/Standa...Controller.jpg

or you can option for a cheaper one, like the Gillis valve - www.boostvalve.com

The Knock Sensor is located on the bottomside of the lower intake.
