  • GTS Headlight covers.

With all this talk about re-pop marker lights and head lights etc it reminds me of something I have seen and I was wondering if anyone here has them, seen them, or has any opinions. Mustangs Unlimited has listed in their catalog GTS headlamp covers for 84/85 SVO mustangs. Since there are no pics, I am guessing they give the ranger stlye headlamps the 85.5/86 flush look. Has anyone seen these or run them?

    Just curious,

    GTS

I have a set of the GTS headlight covers for the '84-'85.

They are a flat piece of plexi that goes between the inner parking and outter turn signals lights, along with a couple 90 degree plastic clips to hold covers in place. These pieces are available in smoke and clear. Didn't fit my car very well and I never used them.

It would be cool if GTS would make a cover for the SVO that looks like the '87-up Mustang, a one piece unit that covers all the marker/headlight/turnsignal lights. hummmm..wonder if anyone has ever tried this? How close to fitting would they be?

      Mike;
I have a set of the headlight covers on my '84. Here is what they look like......I ordered mine from Mustangs Unlimited. They were on back order at the time and it took about a month & half to get them. I also opted for attaching them using the supplied screws. I've had them on for about a year and have had no problems.

        light covers

        Jzleach,

Thanks for posting the pics. Thats pretty much how I had pictured them. I do like the way they look. I guess their clip mounting method is sub-optimal.

I was originally thinking about trying to procure some of 86 units but this is a much cheaper alternative and achieves the look I am after. I'm just not a big fan of the recessed 84/85 headlights.

        Thanks for your replies!

Yeah, I've got them (had them) on my 84 SVO. I lost one and, instead of buying another, made my own from clear plexiglass. I like the ones I made better (of course) because I was able to trim them a bit closer and customize my mounting method.

All you would need is a buck made out of something like medium density yellw foam. Then vac form or drape form a sheet of thin plastic over the buck and trim off the excess.

Ok, that sounds alot simpler than it realy is...................

              More covers...

Making your own seems easy enough & I like the custom fit idea. How did you go about mounting them up?

And on SVOGary's idea of the FOX3 GTS style covers, can anyone describe how the fox3 covers mount up? That idea seems fairly plausible. I work right up the street from Ridout Plastics and they specialize in lexan/acrylic/plexi stuff, so obtaining suitable material wouldn't be an issue.

                GTS

The GTS covers for the '87-up Mustang slip under the headlight assemblies and then clip onto the top. No additional mounting hardware is needed.

lonchairs description of how to make a plexi cover is almost exactly how GTS makes them. A reverse mold (buck) is used and the plexi is heated and sucked to the buck in their machine. excess is trimmed off.

Since I already had the mounting tabs from GTS, I simply drilled some holes into the lenses and the tabs and then attached them with some flush fitting hex head bolts.

I think the motorsport covers are better

The GTS covers are just flat pieces of plastic. A set of smoked GTS covers were on my car when I got it along with a set of covers that were offered by motorsport in 84&85. The latter fit over the headlights and attach at the top with two small screws. they almost look like 85.5/86 headlights. I can't get my camera working right to post pics, but those of you who were at the reunion saw them. BTW, Majestic, if you would be interested in reproducing this style cover, I have an old set that might be good enough to use as a pattern for molds.

                      Motorsport headlightcovers...

                      Hey Perry...now that's a great idea!!!

At one time I looked into getting the '84-'85 SVO Motorsport covers remade. The original manufacturer had sold out to another manufacturer and the original molds had be thrown away during the move due to the low volume of pieces originally sold. I have all the names of these companys and the person I talked to somewhere at home, I can't remember off the top of my big round head!!!
