Is an 85-86 GT steering wheel the same as the svo's with a different center horn pad? It looks almost identical

It's about the same dimensions, but it is formed RUBBER, not leather. I know a couple of people who have had them covered in leather, and they look pretty good. This also makes for a thicker steering wheel.

    Hope that helped...

Rich, do you know if the horn button will interchange?
As far as recovering it... If I was going to something like that, i'd just recover my SVO one.
Cobra, Yea... but I also know where there is a 85GT in a junkyard that still had the steering wheel last time I was there... I just didn't have a puller.

          Dave,

Well, it's a wierd thing...Mine has a leather steering wheel, but has the GT horn pad. I don't think it is a stock wheel, because I bought an SVO horn pad, and it doesn't exactly meet up to the edges of the wheel, but it does fit. So, I would say that the horn pads DO interchange, but some fitment may be necessary. I think some GT's came with a leather wheel, as well. (not sure, help...anyone?)

          Anyway, that's what I know...hope that helps,

They look very close. I have a molded wheel from a GT in my 85 SVO with an SVO horn pad and it looks very nice. The center pad fit with no problems for me.

              does it fit?

The GT center horn pad DOES fit on the SVO steering wheel...I installed one when the original SVO pad started coming apart.

I have a optional leather wheel from an 86 GT and it is different!
My SVO wheel has "nubs" on the dash side of the wheel, or I guess finger grips they could be called. The 86 GT wheel is smooth all the way around.

Ken, sounds like a T-bird wheel on yours.
Sader... Dunno what you have, but my stock SVO wheel is smooth all the way around.
