  • Engine Won't Redline

I took my SVO out for a ride the other day and really drove it hard for the first time. I have been taking it relatively easy in it since I got it. I have done a few minor things to it like the normal tune up stuff, Gillis valve, K&N Filter. Pretty much stock. Basically if I mash the gas, the turbo kicks in, the car pulls real hard and smooth, but the RPM's flatten out around 4,000. I can't seem to get it to wind up any higher. It's weird, I have no loss of power, no bucking and kicking, real smooth and strong. I do have the knock sensor disconnected and have checked the timing (10 degrees w/spout disonnected). Could this be a fuel related issue? Fuel pump, regulator? Other than that no complaints, runs really good. Thanks for the help guys.

I would start by pulling the converter off the down pipe and having a look inside. I suspect your converter is plugged.

If that checks out, how old are the wires and plugs? They may be a likely candidate for an update.

      Another idea

Would be the VAM hose that goes to the inlet of your turbo. Check to see if it`s not collapsing itself under full load, if the hose is easily squished by hand, and if thats the case, it will do the same thing under boost.

        No Redline

I have replaced the plugs and the wires with Ford Motorcraft parts. Have not checked the CAT however. Exhaust seems to be flowing fine though. I was planning on doing a CAT-less 3" exhaust this winter anyway.

          No Redline Part 2

VAM hose/inlet is good, no problems there.

plug it back in and see what it does...if it does the same thing, then we narrow the issue of detonation....
