  • Track Tires?

What are you guys using for you track tires?

For my budget and taste I’m looking at Kumho’s. Either victor racer or Ecsta700. Since I’m supporting ’03 cobras 17x9 what size to you recommend?

    Victor Racer V700 come in 255/40-17 ; 245/45-17
    Ecsta V700 have both 245/40-17 and 275/40/17

I’m currently supporting BF G force KDW 255/45-17. Good road tires. Kind of bologna though.

My spread sheet state the ideal size for the 9” is 275/40-17 but it has 0.91” overhang.

So, to trim the over hang I have to go with a smaller circumference. Next is a 265/40-17 with a 0.72”
    overhang.

And then 255/40-17 with 0.52” overhang.

    Then 245/45-17 with 0.32” overhang.

I don’t know; any advice out there?

For the last couple of years I have been using Toyo RA1 race tires on ly LX, they wear great. Way better wear compares to the Victor Racer, Yok's or BFG. I had been running 255's on 17x8's now I am running 275's on 17x9's. 255's will work pretty good on 17x9, 245's are getting a little narrow, unless you run Hoosiers, they are big for a stated size. Here is a pic with 275's on my LX.

Looking at Kumho's site, the minimum rim size for the 275 is 9". That's the minimum, not the optimum. Usually you want to use a rim size between the minimum and maximum. That size tire is frequently used on the 9.5 rims allowed in the AI series. There are even guys running 315s. But bigger is certainly not always better. I think putting that tire on a 9" rim will cause the sidewall to roll over on a strut front end. I think you will get better response and turn-in with a better supported sidewall. I'm with 90lx86svo, go with the 255s.

I'm making the assumption that you are talking about the performance of the tires, not the look. If you're after the look, go with the 275s. There is also no reason to go with the bigger tire, unless you have the performance enhancements, both chassis and hp, to use it. You can over tire a car and slow it down.

                  This is from Toyo's website.

                  255/40ZR17 236770 8.5-9.0-10.0
                  275/40ZR17 236780 9.0-9.5-11.0

I had been running a 255 on a 17x8 but Toyo does not make a 245 RA1. Not optimal, but drivable. I am now running 275's on a 17x9 which should be better but I will have bow the fenders.
