  • My engine acts funny still

On my 85, I just replaced the TPS on it and i adjusted it to specs, stricly!, according to the instructions on this site . The car runs great now but it feels a little less gutsier and at high RPM, i can see that i have full 15 psi of boost but the engine doesn't really seem to ... gain much power. I mean, sometimes it does like when its cold, SOMETIMES! But, other than that, i don't know. It almost feels like i need to turn the TPS a little further than .90V at idle to more like 1.3V or so. It feels like its not getting enough fuel i think. I tried replacing the fuel filter but didn't really notice a difference. Im planning on drag racing it this saturday at the annual UTI drag races at SPEEDWORLD in SUN CITY?, Arizona and im hoping to get it running good again. Like i said, it feels as though all i need to do is just fine tune the TPS i think. Anyone else experience this problem too, i was hoping someone could recommend me something to try. Just some quick notes, i did a complete tun up in August (plugs, wires, cap/rotor, oil/filter (royal purple), synthetic in tranny and rear, and fuel filter so i don't really think those are affecting my engine in that way. I did a compression test in July and i had approx. 155 in all four cylinders so don't think its the rings or anythin mechanical. Whne i did a maintenence check on the car, i checked for codes on the scanner in July and the scanner said my TPS was out of range so when i finally replaced it two weeks ago and i didn't really adust it to specs, the car ran noticeably well other than it ran noticeably rich (bad fuel economy, exhaust smelled and the exhaust popped loudly on hard deccel when it usually pops not as bad, definitely rich!). Ever since i set the TPS, its ran this way the day after. I don't want to blow anything like the headgasket or engine with soo much boost but no fuel, at least thats what i think it is, so i always let off when it acts up and its not fun anymore, i miss my turbo.

Anyone? Advice? Hurry please, i only gots till friday.

    Thanx all,
    izzy

p.s. no, i am not running full 17, only stock, everything stock except for K & N and bypass kit so whats wrong?

I dont know if you posted this before, but when was the last " tune-up" with good wires..?

    Whats timing at..?

My last tune up with good wires(the ones on there now) was early August. Timing is at stock 10*. You know the weird thing is that the whole reason i did a tune up in august is because the car drove REALLY bad. It felt like it was running on only 3 cylinders. It even sounded like it. SVObud i think told me to try changing everything as far as maintenance so i changed the cap/rotor, wires, plugs, etc. Then it ran fine (on all 4) but you know the weird thing is that even with the old stuff (pre-tune up parts) still on the car, it ran like i said on 3 but as soon as the RPMs went up (2500+) it pulled really hard and seemed to run really good (the way it should only at all RPMs), it just seemed to miss at low RPM.

When i did the tune up, i forgot to change the wires at first and when i fired her up, the car still ran the same (bad at low, great at high ... so it seemed). I then remembered to change the wires and when i did, PRESTO!, then car did not miss anymore and the power seemed to be there at lower RPMS again. The only thing that i noticed right away was that when i floored it (WOT) for a quick second, the engine seemed to take a longer time to rev up. When i test drove it, I definitely felt the engine stoped making power at around 4000 RPM. It didn't do this before, it made power all the way through 5200. The car is still running the same way to this date, power is present only it seems to top out real soon and the engine is noticeably taking longer to rev up than it used to. Just to let you know, the wires are Kragen Autolites <--- i know, bad choice but i didn't think about it at the time.

      thanx guys,
      izzy

Try adjusting the voltage on the tps to .99. It works for 5.0 cars. Should work for ours.
