my ALT light is always on. there seems to be no problems and the battery is always charged..... any ideas???????????

Same issue
I have a 86 and the alt light has been blinking on and off for years. I have replaced every component in the charging system but every now and again it come on for no reason. I am stumped. If you find out anything let me know.Confucius says" a closed mouth gathers no foot" -
Seams Silver may have a blown reverse polarity diode,Alt charges but light stays on,only aggrivating.
N Y Eric sometimes on, I can't guess,to many posibilities .

I figured
I have been struggling with this issue since 92 when I bought the car. I have replace the battery several times the alt 3 times the sending unit twice. I spent hrs using the volt meter looking for shorts. I am about to just pull the light and forget it exists. I also about to do the same thing with the check oil light. It comes on from time to time without reason too. Other than that I (knock on wood) have realy no other electrical issues.Confucius says" a closed mouth gathers no foot"Comment

Intermittent,electrical problems can be a real pain in the but,and the sometimes most difficult to solve.

I had that problem with my 86. I found one of the crimped on connectors at the back of the alt to be the trouble. It looked good but was intermittent.
I put on a new connector and it solved the problem. Maybe it'll work for you.A man stands tallest when he stoops to help a child.Comment
