  • Funny noise

My turbo is making a funny noise. I still have full boost, but when it starts to spin it now makes a loud funny noise. Even if it is barely boosting the noise is not as loud but it's there? I checked all the connections and nothing seems out of place? I'm not sure what it is?

I can't look under the hood and rev up the turbo to hear the funny noise because the car is not moving. Is there any way that I can rev up the turbo while looking under the hood?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Thanks
    Josh (e12thst@aol.com)

does it sound like a LOUD siren? I'm just trying to narrow the sound you're describing to something other than a "funny noise".

No it doesnt sound like a siren, It's really hard to describe, it's like a ka sound kinda. The faster I go the louder it gets kkkkkkkkkk. That's the best I can describe it like a ka or k sound. Its horrible!!!!!!!!!!!

that's a new on me - but for a "redneck" suggestion on how to make it build boost while you look underneath the hood...get an assistant, put the car on jack stands (or better yet, a lift) - and engaged the driveline. Don't get crazy with it - just enough rpms to build boost. This can be VERY dangerous, therefore I attached the "redneck" suggestion tagline to it.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me.

            AHA!!!!
Its the intercooler that is making the funny noise? Now why is it making the funny noise? I don't know much about how intercoolers function......much advice is needed. It's the stock intercooler, do they go bad?

            Thanks Josh

The intercoolers do not go "bad", the brackets do rattle on them a lot though. You can either try to tighten up the bolts that hold the brakets to the intercooler or you can remove the brackets altogether. If your intercooler hose clamps are tight the hoses will hold the intercooler in the right position with no problems.
