I use Redline synthetic PSF. The power steering _seems_ a little easier, but it is in a car that is not driven much (just on Sundays(g)). The pump definitely whines less, especially after we have made a few autocross runs.

      Eric,
I used Valvoline's new synthetic (high temp & cheap) you can get it at Pep Boys, etc. , or the brake fluid from Ford is awesome, as well (just as good as higher priced, but cheap)

why would ya put in "brake fluid" in power sreering? is it better? dont the fluids act diffrently on the seals? i heard of trans fluid in power steering....and i heard of some people making the mistake of putting in power steering fluid in the masterclyder and having to change all the "rubber" lines and seals cause the fluid made the seal swell up. i 'try" only to put in a major brand of power steering fluid in. i also try to flush it out once a year. its not that bad...and its not too costly to do. same goes for the brake fluid.

well, I grabbed a can of prestone power steering fluid, and used that to fill the system.. so far it sounds good.. dont wine too bad.. couldn't find any redline, or anything with a more performance related brand ...

The po-dunk town my paents live only have a retard -- err I mean advance autoparts, and a car-quest, that isn't open on weekends..

this place is so bad, that I couldn't even get synthetic mobil one ATF for my trans... I had to pick it up where I live, and drive back down 2 weeks later to fill it up

            Thanks for all the sugestions..

Hey Gene - Where did you get that Redline?? I live here in Friendswood - so I'm probably not to far from you. I just changed out my steering pump bc it was whining - and when I got the new one, the instructions said that whining was common Must be a Ford thing. I went ahead and tried to buy OReily's best "Gunk" to cut the whining as much as possible. Any ideas? - I haven't added the fluid yet...

Summit has a pump that's almost 3X the price ($130) I paid for the one I got at OReily's ($53) - I wonder if that one is made not to whine.

Also Gene, do you go to any of the south houston street meets? We ought to meet up sometime.

              Thanks,
              Eric

I was scanning this post and out of the corner of my eye while I was clicking the 'back' button, saw the 'Houston, Texas' in the last entry.

I got my Redline from ProAm. Yes, I know, very expensive. I get it on the SCCA SoloII Autocross sponsorship the ProAm does every year. If you register with them, get a decal and put it on your car, and spend $100 with them the first year, and submit to them pics of the car in competition with your results (just have to run 7 events, don't even have to place), they give you a $100 gift certificate for the next year. We do this every year. With the certificate, and an autocross special sale they were having on Koni shocks, we got all the Konis replaced on the car with one of the front ones being essentially free. :-)

There is also supposedly a mom-N-pop speed parts house on the east side of town off of I10 (around Navigation, I think, I will have to find where for sure) that also carries the stuff, and at a little better price.

We haven't make too many of the car shows lately, though would love to make the Dixie Drive In show they have every Saturday night. Friends from my old neighborhood (Sagemont) show up there from time to time. It is the Dixie Drive In on I45 at Dixie Farm Road.

It would be cool to meet up some time, we live in Pearland, so are not too far from you. Be forwarned, though, our SVO is not called "The Beater" for nothing. :-)
