  • speed bleeders

I seem to remember someone having a tool to bleed brakes with, that plugged on top of the master cyl, and you pressureized it with air, then you could go to each of the wheels, and bleed the brakes..

Sounds like it would be usefull for making sure you have all new fluid.

has anyone used one of these?
    how well do they work?
and does anyone know who sells them?

Hvae you seen the "Russel Speed Bleeders?" got to each wheel crack the valve open a half turn. get in the car and pump the pedal, check valve in fitting prevents air from entering, used alot at the road course and autocross

yea.. they are about $40 each caliper too as I recall..

The thing I am talking about I think sells for like $20...total.

yea.. I'm cheap right now,.. I'm buying too many other parts... exhaust system, paying painters, couple of SVO Rims, hatch weather stripping,

          Eric,
          Try http://www.speedbleeder.com/
They have a system with check valves that are about $40 to do all four wheels. Comes with nice bag to hang on the side of your car, or you can use a bottle. They work great, just did mine. Quick easy, no mistakes. You do in this order:
          Right Rear
          Left Rear
          Right Front
          Left Front
(Farthest to closest caliper to master cylinder)
Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!
They ship very quickly...out of Illinois.

Those look cool.. I may have to give them a try.

that is a lot cheaper than i remember seeing them before...

Since you already have them , why dont you do a product review on them under the product review brake section

            Thanks

              Eric,
I did do a review as a reply to your posting on brakes.
I will do a more in-depth one under its own catagory.
Sorry for the confusion on that.
              btw, they are cheap...and effective!

Read more than a few people on Corner-carvers saying that the spring loaded caliper bleeders become worthless after a while and the guys who are bleeding for race weekends prefer the stock bleeder screws in conjuntion with a vacuum or pressure evacuator.

on the 944 forums, they are under speed motive pressure bleeders. i think they are roughly 50 but the 944 has a round screw on cap and i think its specific to that. there was a guy who did a "cheap" mock up of it. i will try to find it.

http://www.dojoninjas.com/944/hydraulics/hydraulics.htm this is the fake one of the motive power bleeder. the guy made it from "cheapo" parts. the thing is......the 944 has a round screw on type of cap. which would let you screw a seal on to pressurize.......youre smart, maybe youll think of something.

I used a big vacuum canister that you pump up and then attach to the bleed screw and (as long as the master cylinder is open) just crack the line open and watch nasty fuid get sucked out.

Any suggestions on a vacuum pump that will pull and hold a vacuum for the purpose of brake bleeding or checking for vacuum leaks, etc? I know there are some commercial products out there ($$$) but I'm only looking of an occasional use type of set up. I have the MightyMite hand pump which is nice to test diaphragms/valves/etc, but won't pull a constant vacuum.

The one I used belonged to a guy with 5 XR4Ti's who helped me right after I bought my SVO and the phenolic piston siezed. The canister was about 3 gallon capacity and it just had a handle on the top like a bycycle tire pump. 8-10 pumps and it was ready to drain the brake system. Only took me 15 min. to do the whole car. He said it was ~$50 at a parts store.
