  • Anyone ever take apart a 86 headlight lens?

Wondering if anyone has ever (successfully) taken a 86 healight lens apart to polish and clean the inside of the plastic?

A few years ago I ran into an owner who said he did this, used buffing rubbing compound and brought his yellowed lenses back to near new...

I'm gun-shy about busting mine in the process....

    Thoughts???

I did actually take my old ones apart...

I bought probably one of the last set around ... I gave what i thought was a lot for my set, but by today's standards, I STOLE THEM!!

it was pretty simple.. the glue that was holding them together was toast, mine popped right apart (remember, my car was a AZ car, so it was subjected to a lot of heat!!)

Like I said in the other post, i dont think yoiu can do much on the inside of the lense...

it would be good if someone could come up with some type of chemical we could soak these in for about 2 days, and it would clean them up... I pollished on mine for about 2 days, and they were still trash... so i got new ones... probably the FIRST thing i did after I got my SVO!

      Headlights

I took my original left light off due to it being slightly yellowed and replaced it with a NOS unit. Upon closer inspection I found that the glue had dried out and I was able to pull the lense off. I have a polishing set made specifiaclly for plastic models and am going to give it a whirl (no pun intended and see if I can brighten mine up (again it's not a real bad one though). I'll let everyone know how it goes.
