  • Bought New Tires Today!

My SVO was rolling on Michellin Snow tires since I bought it in February. Not a big deal since it sees very limited Driving time so far. Mustang Madness Car show was really the last time I drove it. The Navy sent me out of town for a bit so my summer work list on the car has gotten nowhere.
I decided to get the General Tire Exclaim UHP. It was highly rated when I did my search at the Tirerack. Had to special order them though so they will be in in a couple days. Can't wait to get real tires on the car. Hopefully I will lose the buyers remorse for not choosing the Kuhmo ECSTA. Anyone else running the Generals? (255/50VR16)

I had some General's along time ago, from what I remember the price was good and they were decent tires.
I don't think you can go wrong with Tire Rack. I have ordered a few sets of tires from them and always get the best price, fast shipping and excellent service.
If you decide you don't like the tires then just get your use out of them; burn em off! Either autocross, drag or just "spirited" driving, then you can get new ones faster

If it makes you feel better, I've had kumho ecsta's on 2 of my cars and haven't exactly fallen in love with either pair. For the money you can't really go wrong but I'll probably switch over to something else once the current kumho's are toast...

I have Summitomos on my Cutlass and really like them, soft ride but pretty stick. I had Nitto's before and I thought I liked them ok but they felt a little stiff after I tried the Sum's out.
I since wore out the rear Sum's and put some Nitto Drag Radials on. Super sticky! and a good ride

LOL- For $375 a set, burning them off sounds like a great option if I don't like them. It was actually a top rated summer performance tire but at at great price. Hard to beat $75.00 a tire.

One caveat is the tire sidewall will be taller than the stock tire as well as the overall diameter. You may run into rubbing issues...not sure.

            Stock tire - 225/50/16
            Sidewall - 4.4 inches
            Diameter - 24.9 inches

            New tire - 255/50/16
            Sidewall - 5.0 inches
            Diameter - 26 inches

Assuming you are going 255/50/16 on all four corners, your speed ratio will change. When your speedo reads 60 mph, you will actually be travelling 62.9 mph (not a huge difference).

My brother-in-law runs a local Firestone store & I get REALLY good deals.. I put on a set of Fusion HRi's 225/50-16.. At just over $49 a tire how could I not try to burn these off?? All I can say is WOW!! These tires get real sticky.. After a small dry-hop at the track they don't spin of the line.. But I'm not real hard on it when dragracing.. I installed these tires right before the 2006 Reunion.. At Barber these tires really showed how good they are.. The only car that did better in the turns, was a 2003-4 Mach-1 with racing slicks & lots of suspension work..

I have fuzions on both my mustangs....the gt has 245/45/17 z rated. I dont want to do burnouts because I have a good amount of power and very good traction but highway gears in a 7.5 rear...I think something will break.....my svo has the 225/50/16. I like this tire

When I finally get them on in the next couple of days I'll get some photos taken.

Well, The tires are on and wow, what a difference in ride and noise. They look small though. In 1986 I remember thinking how big those tires were. Lots of things change I guess. And another bummer is that its raining today so no joy ride to test them out.
On another note I found a black 84 or 85 in rough shape sitting at the garage up the road. I'm going to go get the VIN and maybe the story.
