  • 85.5 Driving Light Switch Burnt !

When I first got my 2R 85.5 I had a problem with the driving light switch nearly catching on fire. It had only a few hundred miles on it so I had taken it back to the dealership. They fixed it and said it was a faulty relay. I never had any more problems with it. I recently purchased a second 85.5 in September. It has 73,000 miles on it. I was driving it in the rain the other night and couldn't see real well with the fogged headlights. I figured the switch would have been fixed by now if it had a problem. Well... Get out the marshmellows cause the thing is fried ! The switch is actually melted solid in the "on" postion although the lights aren't lit. I need to know what the fix is and who has a good used ( or NOS ) switch and correct relay.

Yikes! This is the first I've heard about a headlight switch problem. I know the igition switch is something us 84 owners have to look out for, as well as part of the wiring harness under the hood. Was this a service bulitin or recall, or was it limited to a bad batch of switches?

    Z.

    I understandeth now

Don't think I will use mine again either Eric. Not until I get in there and check the wiring at least.

      Driving Switch not Headlight Switch

Yes I meant the driving light switch on the console directly left of the premium fuel switch.

I think he is talking about the DRIVING light switch.. not the headlight swithch

I had the driving light switch melted in my 86 (when I bought it) just like your talking about. I put a new switch in, and havn't had any problems since. But I don't use my driving lights much.

well -- generaly, fog lights are yellow--- driving lights are clear, so technically, svo's have driving lights...

                Switch

                Ken,

Did you get a switch yet? I definatley have one packed away but it might be a prem fuel switch or amp switch. I believe the switch is the same and the face plate can be changed. I was told it was good when I bought it but never used it.

                  Switch

If the switch is the same I'll take it. How much ? I won't install it until I find out for sure why the first one burnt. But at least I'll have a good one to use.

                    Guys,

Isn't there a source for these somewhere? I swear I saw them somewhere. They were the same switch, they just didn't have the labeling on them...

If anyone knows where these are available, please post it here.

                    Thanks, in advance,

                        Driving Light Switch

                        Ken,

I'll check the switch when I get home. I was thinking $15 including the shipping charge to get it to you. If for some reason it doesnt work I would refund you money. now that i think about it I am pretty sure I plugged this switch in when I was trying to diagnose my "only 9lbs of boost issue" back when I first bought my SVO. I remeber I determined it wasnt the premium fuel switch but the BCS that was the issue.

                        Rich,

I think the source was from the SVOOA or possibly one of those non existent ************** items that you could buy that never materialized.

Noope, that's not where I saw it...maybe it was on turboford....

I will look and see if I can find it again, if so, I will post it here...

                          Thanks,

************** had a switch on it's products page, but all it says now is that it is no longer available...I also need a switch, mine works, but the LED is broken...I suppose I could try and just replace the LED.

                              Fog Light Switch

                              Ken,

The switch I have is actually labeled as a fog light switch. The switch is in a good used condition. Like I said, I seem to recall it functioned fine when i was testing with it. If there is anything wrong with it it wont cost you a dime. Here are couple of pics of it.
