need to know which is best tires

Hey guys, I just recently purchased a set of 17x8 wheels. They are like 99 cobra wheels, polished. It'll look nice on the 1986 SVO

I wanted to know which is good set of tires to get for the SVO. I really want a sticky ones and still be able to use it everyday. I am tired of cheap tires and losing traction. Time for my hard earned money to be spent well.

What I want is tires that would hook up at launch and for cornering. So it should be combination of both, I know its hard since launching works on soft sidewall tires and cornering works for hard sidewall tires. But I need someone with experience to tell me which is good tires.

I am looking at 245-40-17 or 245-45-17. I think I would prefer 40 since I might drop the car with lowering springs for 1.5 inch.

I did more research and thinking. I think it would make sense on 17x8 wheels. Go with a 235-40-17 tires, I know it may be expensive, but its what I want to try, Yokohama A032R. Then lower the car with good springs with 1.5" drop.

That should be pretty decent without much rubbing or any at all hopefully.

I think you are right - I have mine lowered 1.5 with 255/45/17s (soon to be 245/45/17s)

they rub pretty bad, but I am replacing the tires due to low tread, not because of the rubbing.

My point - even though mine rub a lot, they still last.

235/40/17s

If you want some good REALLY cheap 235/40/17s, try Yokohamas AVS intermediate. Tirerack sells them for $64 each, under the seemingly never ending closeout. I used them on a track car and the traction is unbeatable for the price, I did have Tirerack shave them. The treadwear rating is around 140-160 (vs 60? for the A032r) so you can actually get some decent mileage out of them. Plus the A032r's are really noisy.

I'm on my 2nd set of Kuhmos. They have pretty good grip and aren't very expensive.

I like the Kumho's also...

I have the same set but a different size on my 96 GT (245/45/17) and love them. I went on tire rack today and noticed an ever better deal on another Kumho tire, the ECSTA 711.

I was wondering if Paul or anyone has tried these...

Kumho ECSTA 711 for $56 each or about $265 shipped.

Bridgestone S-03

My vote goes for Bridgestone, either S-03 or RE730's. They have great dry and wet traction ratings, competitively priced, good wear and noise ratings. I have a 300ZX Twin Turbo that wears the S-03s. They provide great wet tractions and no hrydroplaning upto 80MPH. The car came originally with Goodyears. I could spin the tires at will. With the S-03's, it is almost imposible to spin 'em without causing them to hop.
