  • HELP! Window Stuck!

    Hey everyone,

I just bought my 85 SVO yesterday for 1,200. I was using the power windows when driving it home, and when I got home the passenger window goes up, but not the drivers window. I was looking for a fuse, but can't find it anywhere! Help please!

If it was a fuse then both windows would not work. Most likely you either have a window motor that has gone bad or the gear inside the motor has broken. Can you hear any noise when you hit the button? if so then you probably just need a new gear kit. If you cannot hear anything then you may need a new motor....

Yeah, when I hit the button, I hear it make a "thunk" noise inside the door, its like its trying to come up but won't. How much should it cost to fix it?

yea.. sounds like the gears are kaput..., or possibly the motor.

The good news is, these are the same gears as in all other Mustangs. It's not SVO specific.

You should be able to grab the window, and help pull it up. At least this way, you wont get rain in the window (if it's not in a garage.)

everyone is probably absolutely correct.....as in, you've fried a window motor....but...

first thing to do to make sure (and what you'll need to do to replace anyway) - take the door panel off and inspect the motor/glass/track/wiring. Sometimes they get in a bind and won't be able to push up....or the glass will be stuck against the window trim molding and can't push past it....or your wiring to the motor is rubbing somewhere...

Window motors are cheap enough - I'd suggest getting some NEW ones instead of looking for ones in the junk yard. Every parts place that sells Mustang parts...sells window motors. Like Eric said, they're not SVO specific.

If you hear a thunk then you probably just need the gear replacement kit. I carry these for $19.95 at www.svpu.com. You will need to remove the motor and then the gear replacement is a piece of cake from there...
