difference between a 79-90 front fender and a 84-86 SVO fender

whats the difference between a 79-90 front fender and a 84-86 SVO fender besides the three little holes on the side??

that's it - the 3 slots where the front facia bolts up to plus, the SVO fender doesn't extend past those mounting points as far as the later non-svo fenders do.

Actually there is one more difference. Where the bumper cover wraps around into the wheel area there is an indentation in the SVO fender so that the bumper cover is flush with the rest of the wheel arch. That and the 3 holes for the upper bumper cover mount and the 2 holes for the lower bumper cover mount are the only differences...

ok- so will i be able to use 87-90 fenders on my svo or not??? can i mod the fenders to fit??

you can use them - but yes - you'll have to modify them to fit.
