Is it worth it to take the catback out in one peice so I can save/sell it or should I just make it easy on myself and cut the tail pipe off??

Depends on the shape of the cat-back system. Being that I own a concours restored 85, I'd think the system is of value if it's in good shape. However, dropping the axle is a PIA!

well i was going to remove the whole thing until i noticed a rust hole on the muffler and then explored further and found that the whole muffler was basically shot so i just cut it off. Oh well i guess, I don't think I will ever return it to stock anyway.

that's basically what my cat was like. My girlfriend smelled exhaust and upon inspection the cat had about 7 cracks in it so I just cut it off. New cat pipe and muffler on its way!!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but as you talk about bad cats....does the downpipe from Stinger go far enough to replace the cat?

no but it is a good place for a flexpipe instead

The flex pipe does not go back far enough like Eric said. I replace my cat w/ one from catco/magnaflo that had the o2 port in it. Makes for a good location for the wide band sensor.
