Got a question about a Flowmaster y-pipe. It appears to be designed to have the exhaust flowing from the dual 2.25s to the single 3".... would it flow alright in the reverse direction? (3" from the cat going to the dual 2.25" tailpipes).

      Here's the part:

      99 Honda Superhawk - 996cc V-Twin

It will work, and I have seen people use it, but because the angle of the Y they are a bit of a pain to hook up.

it was designed to go the other way, so I have no idea how efficent the Y would be..

You think just using a 3" to 2.25" reducer along with the stock y-pipe would work just as well?

I have the flowmaster Y on my 9L. Single 3" to two 2.5" splits. Works fine - but I wish the " Y " was spread a wee bit more (STL crew stop thinking dirty Beavis/Butthead stuff). It would make fitment a little better.

I'm thinking the best thing you could do is find a good quality exhaust shop - draw out a diagram of what you want (with measurements) - and have them build you something.

I have a factory replacement Y-Pipe from Walker on my car. It's application is listed as 86 SVO and 84/85 5.0L. I also have Walker replacement tailpipes. All from Mustangs Unlimited. They were both installed at the same tine as a SAC Mustang Downpipe, all as a complete new exhaust. It all fit fine with minimal adjustment only to make the tailpipes sit level under the bumper.

What is the OD of the Walker Stuff? Is it mandrel bent? Do you have a Cat? Where did the system step down at? Do you still get the performance benefit of a 3" downpipe if you use a 2.25 cat-back setup?

Any light you can shed on the subject is greatly appreciated.

                  1) The Walker replacement stuff is 2 1/4" Diameter (same as stock) and Y-Pipe is not Mandrel Bent (same as stock), but I belive the tail pipes are. It is more "stock replacement" stuff than performance upgrade stuff.

                  2) Yes I have a Cat Conertor. It is a 3" Dynomax High Flow that is now mated to an ATR downpipe.

                  3) The system steps down at the junction of the Cat convertor and Y-Pipe. The stepdown joint was taken from the SAC Mustang downpipe that I used to have on the car.

                  4) When I installed the 3" downpipe there was a noticable performance difference over the stock downpipe. A larger catback system than I currently have should give even better performance.
