  • Bad Gillis spring?

    Can someone help me figure out the best way to see if my gillis valve has a weak spring? At full throttle, the car will boost to 23ish PSI and i have my Gillis valve set somewhere close to 16psi. i have the two stage system and when its off, the boost will hold at the factory setting between 8psi and 9psi. but when i flip the switch, teh boost flys up.
    Some had said that the internal spring may be weak. If so ill replace it. One problem... i dont know how to check it.

    Any ideas?

    Just unscrew it and check the spring tension. I had the same problem with a weak spring in my gillis valve and solved it by using a spring from an automatic tranny. But a weak spring in my gillis bcv did not cause over boost but just the opposite, so i think its not the bcv spring unless its different than the one I have. The one I have has to be turned downward to increase boost therefore a weak spring will not hold pressure on the check ball under it and allows more pressure to the wg.

      I think i read somewhere that if the Valve isnt sealed all the way that it will leak and produce MAX BOOST. I am getting a spike of 23psi with a T3/T4 set up. I think thats what is happening. If someone has heard of this or has had this happen, let me know.
