  • Wideband O2 sensor mount location?

I know this was covered in the last couple of months, but I searched and couldn't find it.

Anyway, roughly where in the exhaust should this be mounted?

I have mine about 2' pass the turbo on the side. Not the bottom or top.
Time to clean up the engine bay!

I installed a heat sink in the stock location and replaced the OEM sensor.

I installed my WMS wideband' sensor there as well...I had to put the Innovate Motorsport Heatsink on the O2 sensor to stop the sensor from getting too hot...

can the wideband o2 take place of the factory o2 sensor or do you have to run both?

It depends if your wideband kit has an output to simulate the narrow band...The WMS wideband does, and IIRC the Innovate widebands do as well.

They do. But since I went MS I just use the WB output on the LC1 full time.

IMO, wideband O2 sensors are too expensive to risk putting them in the stock location, even with a heatsink. I paid a guy $20 to weld a bung in at the bottom of the downpipe. It's almost horizontal, so it's not at the ideal angle, but it fits in the acceptable range. At least I know it's not going to overheat.

The last OEM O2 sensor I bought was around $40. The WB is only $70 or so. Not that much of an issue. There are factory cars out there using these full time for tens of thousands of miles without a problem. This shouldn't be a high failure item if used properly. Besides for the $100 I paid for the Innovate heat sink it better be good.

I have something around here that says it should be 14-18" downstream of the turbo. I am using the O2 bung on the cat for the wide band and using a 4 wire NB in the stock location. Also to help avoid contamination and moisture it should be mounted in a verticle position. It will work in the other positions but will not last as long.

So on my race car, I've put the wide band on the lower part of the downpipe. I'm thinking about putting the exhaust temp guage in the stock 02 location...does that sound good?
Hoping to get on the track soon
