  • Parking brake to body boot

While doing my clutch, tranny, and parking brake cables, I noticed this boot was broken and I could see light which means air, exhaust, heat, etc, was coming through as well. I purchased this from 50resto, have not seen it anywhere else. the description says 87-93 and I assumed it would fit the SVO..well, I was wrong. I guess the earlier than 87 models have square holes while the 87-93 have oblong holes. See pictures.. I wasn't about to send it back and search again although I'm not sure if Ford still sells it for our cars.

Anyways, using the new one as a template I marked the pattern roughly on the sheetmetal and used my dremel to enlarge the hole to the new shape and size. I did a little at a time until it snapped into place.

Mustang 87-93 Boot, Front Parking Brake Cable To Body
[# LRS-2863A ] This is the boot that attaches to the transmission tunnel that the front parking brake cable goes through. This boot is includes with LRS-2603A.

this link was down this morning, but hopefully will work soon.

Over all the part is good and does what it's supposed to do, just had to modify things a bit for it to fit.

what a P.O.S... this grommet broke already.. hasn't been a damn week. I was driving home Saturday after the UFC fight and it was cool outside so I had the sunroof open and windows up. I feel a constant stream of hot air hitting me. I run my hands around to find it and it's the parking brake area. Today I looked down there and I can see ground. the outiside of it is still attached to the sheetmetal, but the other side that is on the rod is broken.... cheap a$$ stuff...damnit.

I'm going to remove it and return it. I don't know how else to prevent this from breaking except to oil the shaft itself so this slides easily.. not sure.

second round....first boot broke after a week because the hole is so small. I enlarged this one and greased the rod that goes through it and it seems to work ok.

it WILL work this time.. the hole was way too small for the shaft. I gave it just enough room to move freely and greased it up. I'm still pissed about the brake cables..trying to find some locally.

Thanks again for the info and reply to the other thread.

FYI... I grabbed a boot out of a SN95 car this morning. It appears to be the same as the 87 Fox cars based on your pics. I'll get the dremmel out this evening.

make sure to check the size of the hole that the rod goes through..I trimmed mine just a bit because the first one I had was too small and it ripped it. I learned on the second one..
