IF I PUT AN 86 CAMSHAFT IN MY 84, WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO CHANGE TO GET TO 86 SPECS? I ALREADY HAVE AN E6 MANIFOLD AND 3" DP. ALSO, WHERE COULD I GET A NOS 86 CAM KIT?

    86 specs?

head, intakes, injectors, PE computer....and you'll need the 86 BCS as well....but I would suggest getting an aftermarket manual Boost Valve and setting your boost a weee bit higher than factory settings

Computer/wiring/injectors is big thing....but you can always just use a LA3 computer from a 87-88 TC.

THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF WORK TO GET A BIT MORE HP. WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST TO GET MY HP UP TO ABOUT 225? IS A CHIP A GOOD IDEA?

well....I have an early 85..about the same as your 84 with the exception of transmisson gearing and rear gear ratio.

Start off with a K&N cone filter (attached directly to the Vane Meter) - $39.00

Manual Boost Valve - they can range from a fish tank valve ($1.25) to a Rick Gillis ($45), or one like what Turbo Specialties offers ($70)....turn your boost to 17psi or higher.

You already have the 3" DP - try increasing the dia of the rest of your exhaust (drop the CAT if you can).

Swap out the dual fuel pumps for a larger intank pump with a fuel pressure regulator.

That's just about what I'm running and I dynoed it earlier this year and netted 179 rwhp and 206lb tq on a Mustang Dyno - without any tuning. I had dynoed it a couple years ago with only a fishtank valve and K&N filter (none of the exhaust and fuel pump upgrade) and it pulled 162 rwhp - 182lbs tq....on a Dynojet.

              NOS CAM

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF REPLACING AN 84 CAM WITH AN 86 CAM WOULD INCREASE MY HP ON A FAIRLY STOCK MOTOR. MY ONLY MODS ARE A 3" DOWNPIPE AND A CAT DELETE EXHAUST SYSTEM.
              ANY INFO APPRECIATED

hmmm....personally, I don't think it would cause that much of a HP increase with everything else in the head being stock on it...especially without the use of an adjustable cam pulley installed with it.

The single most HP gain you'll get right now would be a manual boost valve. Cheap and easy to install.

Alot depends on the condition of your cam. From most of the used cams I have seen, they would show an improvement with any cam as long as its new.

                    THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS.
BUD, I'M GOING WITH THE 86 CAM THAT I GOING TO GET FROM PAUL. YOU MENTIONED THAT HEAD WORK WOULD HELP IN POWER GAIN. DO YOU JUST MEAN PORTING AND POLISHING OR ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?
