  • spec I clutch

just got my car back and I had a spec I clutch installed. man does it grab. seems like it has 2 positions. in and out. anyone else have this clutch and does it get more driveable as it breaks in?

The Spec stage anything clutches are like that. Barely any slip, lotsa grip. I stalled my brother's XR7 many times getting used to it. If you had the flywheel surfaced at the time you installed the clutch, then it may get a bit smoother but it never gonna have the same progressive feel that the stock unit did.
The BATFE should be a convenience store.

Hey Dawaki, how does the pedal effort compare to stock? I'd give up some of the progressive feel of the stock clutch for lighter pedal effort!

I put a Stage II with the SPEC flywheel in my 3.0L Contour SVT I built. I didn't really notice a huge difference in grab.

I didn't notice a difference in the pedal feel but the grab is bad. I cant even back up the car without it chattering. I am going to talk to my mechinic to see if something is wrong.

Spec's are like that. I have a Stage III in my GT and there is no in between. it's engaged or not.. that's it. It's nice at the track though!!

It will be grabby until it is fully brook-in. After the stage I in the TC was brook-in real good it acts like a normal clutch.

specs are known to chatter some, but I think only the higher torque ones.

I hope this gets better...it chatters backing it up badly. getting better at going forward but sometimes it doesn't idle to well and between that and the clutch makes me look like an idiot trying to drive it.

I'm running Spec II with ~ 1K miles in my 86; original fork, quadrant and cable w/no problems. Pedal feel is almost equal to stock - no slip and no chhhattterrr.

It should only chatter when in neutral/with the clutch depressed.
