  • 7.5 pinion issue

I have a issue with the rear howling a bit on hwy speeds. I ivestigated it and found that the pinion is a bit loose. I can push it up and down and can see it move a bit. It has no leaks or issues YET. But can this be solved by tightening up the pinion nut? Or do I need to replace the bearings and such?

If you can move it i would take the driveshaft flange off and replace the outer bearing and seal .

m88010 and m88048 bearing numbers, plus seal is 3604

If you can push the pinion up and down, you will have to replace the bearing, seal and crush sleeve. It cannot be fixed by just tightening the nut. Don't let this go or you will be needing major repairs to the differential.

OK now that its the end of the season. I am going to tear it apart and fix her up. Anyone have research material for the 7.5? I am quite versed on Dana 60/70's but this is alot smaller.

What should the backlash tolerance be? What about preload FT-LBS? That information would be very helpfull.
