  • Leaking from pinion nut

I dont know what the hell I did, but Ive rebuilt my 7.5 twice now and both times it leaks from behind the pinion nut...I looked by the seal, no leaks. Somehow the fluid is finding its way through the pinion splines. Everything is new...I used some fine grit sandpaper to smooth the areas the seal rides on so thats not the problem....I dont get it. Any ideas guys???

So you've got a leaky nut?

Did you torque it down to spec?

yeah...gotta hate that steady drip, drip, drip.....

I have it torqued down to a little tighter than the recommended drag....no difference....

put a little silicone on the splines and nut threads and torque it back down. That should seal it.

It's typical on any machinery application. Anything that involves splines, threads, and liquids will have a path for migration of fluid.
