  • tbird 8.8 rear

All tbird's pre 89 8.8 rear /should/ fit the svo right? I ask, as someone is sellign a posi 8.8 for dirt cheap from an 88 xr7 tbird(?). even for the 65 dollars they are asking, that is pretty cheap. good core price, i'd say. I imagine it should fit right inthere, just swap the svo axles/brakes like any other 8.8 swap, but i could be wrong.

    thanks guys.

but this guy claims it's from an 88 thunderbird xr7. I thought only the cougar had the xr7 model moniker... Anyways, I was thinking because it is from the 88 tbird, it should fit. I mean, i don't see any reason why there should be a difference between the 88 tc read and the 88 non tc tbird rears, being 8.8, but i could be wrong.

Thanks. So, according to this, it should be the same length as an 87-88 tc rear. just wonder what the gears are in that bad boy. May be making a call.

Here are some specs on the TC rear end from the Merkur site.

"What diff. and gears does the TC have?

            83-86
            3.45:1 final drive
83-86 TC were 4 lug with rear drum brakes.

            87-88
The auto had a 3.73:1 final drive
            The 5sp had a 3.55:1 final drive
All 87-88 TC came with the stouter 8.8 rear diff.
They all were 4 Lug and were rear disc brake equipped"
