  • IXLR8SVO's Engine Build

Here is my new engine build. I will be assembling the best built, smoothest running engine I know how to build. I will be keeping the outwardly appearance of the engine as stock looking as possible because living in Los Angeles, I have to pass both a dynamic smog test as well as a visual inspection. It is getting increasingly more difficult to find a smog test technician in LA with a sense of humor these days. (I blame the local Honda & Subaru tuners for this!)

I pulled the previous motor from the car for two reasons:
    1) The car is being painted and I wanted the engine compartment to get new paint with clearcoat too.
    2) The turbine wheel broke free from the shaft and the cylinder walls suffered from a bad case of indigestion.

I started with a spare standard bore long block I had sitting around. So far:

Block cleaned & inspected. Bores in great shape but still bored & honed to 0.010” over. New bearings

Crank cleaned & inspected. Journals all in great shape with minor refinish/polish

    New Crower Sportsman Rods

New CP forged pistons 0.010” oversize

ARP rod bolts / ARP mains / ARP head studs /
ARP on just about every fastener. I know they wont make the engine perform any better and yet you ask why?
    Because chicks dig it.

Rather than bogging down the SVOCA site with too many pictures I am keeping the pictures here:

Just finished the head work and installed it (and a some accessories) onto the short block. The cylinder head that I’m using is one I bought many years ago for a TurboCoupe project that I abandoned when I bought my 85.5 SVO. I installed this head on my SVO and put less than 2000 miles on it. It performed very well so in the interest of time and budget, a minor clean-up and paint will be the order of the day.
