  • Mishimoto Aluminm Radiator

Whilst doing my engine rebuild earlier this year I decided I wanted to change the radiator as well. Thought I'd look into aluminium ones and found this one on e-bay although I'm sure they're available through many sources. This particular radiator, can't remember the part number, is designed for the 5.0 and states you can't use the stock cooling fan.

This is not so much of a problem with the SVO as the cooling fan is attached to the upper radiator supports. It also doesn't have a transmission cooler, again, not a problem. Allows the use of readily available stock radiator hoses and retains the stock upper and lower retaining system. I've been using a mixture of "Dex-Cool" (the orange coolant) and distilled water in a 50/50 mix and the car runs really well.

Pretty much a stock, bolt in replacement except it aluminium and cheaper than a copper/ brass equivalent. The quality is really nice and it comes with stickers. YAY!!

Not to hi-jack this thread but I was wondering if this radiator has the same dimensions as the Gryphon Aluminum radiators? Reason I ask is because I have one in my 88gt 5speed and want to put it into my 4e. I'm pretty sure it would fit, fits in the gt and no real modifications were made, and everything Chalky stated above are the same with regards to fan and retaining system.

If possible, could you post-up the dimensions for all Chalky, thanks Mate and hi-jack over.

Jas, the car is 30 odd miles away so that's gonna be a little hard. If you go to Mishimoto's site they list the dimensions there I believe.

        Two more questions:

        1. Best place/lowest prices to buy the Mishimoto.
        2. Why Dex-Cool over the "Green Stuff"?

        Thanks,
        John

The newer coolants are rated at 7 year service life compared with 2 year for the green stuff.

Not to mention that the red stuff is supposed to be environmentally friendly if leaked.

Personally I don't give two squirts whether I'm "green" or not but dogs really like the taste of the green antifreeze and it will also kill them if they get too much or, at a minimum, make them very sick.

The red stuff and whatever other colors there are nowadays are also supposed to be more friendly to aluminum radiators. Less corrosive etc. etc.

I think the dex-cool was suggested by laredo or dr fleming to limit corrosion in addition to the distiller water.
