It is a dark, charcoal grey. Some are probably faded from sun, etc. Also, I have seen several SVO interior differences caused from the sun, and quite possibly production differences or changes.
And, yes, it is supposed to be fuzzy, to reproduce a "suede leather" appearance.

I have the same issue with the dash on my early '84. What product do you use to properly refinish the "gray fuzzy" panels? Where can you buy it? I've never seen such a product.
I think getting this right will make a BIG difference in how the interior looks, since the panels are so visible.

It is called flocking. Basically a two step process that involves applying a spray-glue base and then the flocking material. I refinished some panels and they look fine except that the flocking was black. I've been meaning to get some dark-gray mixed but just haven't had time.Originally posted by 65289

You will want to get a "real" flocking gun, though. Those little tubes aren't worth sheist. I can't remember where I got mine, but they could probably point you in the right direction.
Also, try doing a Google search for "flocking supplies". You'll probably come up with several good vendors.
