  • Difficult shifting gears

Moving from one gear to the next sometimes the shift is very hard and at times won't go into gear at all. Especially when trying to speed shift.

How is your quadrant? That was my problem.

Did this just start happening? If so, I'm with Richard, check your quadrant, and cable, make sure something hasn't slipped. Pay close attention to the ends of the cable, make sure the ends aren't about to come off.

After that, your speed shifting may have bent a fork or messed up the synchro teeth. These transmissions don't take kindly to being speed shifting, and will reward you with bent forks, messed up synchros and gears, and going into two gears at once.

Additionally, using too 'slick' a gear lube will make the things hard to shift, so if you have recently changed the transmission lube, you may want to change back.

Another thing to look at, is if you _haven't_ changed the fluid recently, do you even have enough in the trans to keep everything well-lubricated?

look under the dash and follow the clutch cable to the plastic thingy that is attached to the pedal. This is your quadrant.

The term "quadrant" dates back many years, was used for marine navigation, as one example. On our SVO's, it's a plastic device that is mounted to the clutch rod/pedal and then attached to the clutch cable. The factory quadrants are plastic and are prone to get brittle over time, thus causing potential problems. They are self adjusting, yet I am adjusting mine more than I want to manually. About to replace it.

Others might have more to add...
