  • Thexton Distributor Gear Remover

Picked up my Thexton distributor gear remover from the Snap-On guy today(had to special order it)....double thumbs up!!! This makes it super easy with NO risk of damaging the gear...cost $64, well worth it

(this is a specialty tool for Ford distributors, says 1983 and newer...not sure if it would be applicable to other makes)

The 86 is alive again after replacing the TFI and Stator...YAYYYYY....now all I need is a 60 degree day.....sigh

So you picked up Thexton parts from a Snap-On guy? Is Snap-On dropping the ball here lately by not having the same item available (like that's something new)? The "Snap-On Guy" in any part of the country seems to be late in delivery and have either a poor or an ultimate failure in warranty coverage. In my shop, there are several unfilled Snap-On orders that are over two years old. Blame the dealer or the supplier, the problem persists.

I agree on the warranty thing. When I was in the Navy working with civilians, we used to do a lot of fly-away repairs overseas (the "Gulf" is so lovely in the summer!). We used Snap On tools and they would break left and right. The Snap On wiener would gladly sell us new tools, but you sure couldn't find him if you needed replacements.

Wow....havent had any problems with the guy here....he fixed two of my ratchets too while I stood in the truck. Of course, I dont deal with Snap-On on a regular basis like you guys, so maybe my experience is A-typical....either way, Im still happy with the tool !

            Like this one?

I need to swap the gear on my new MSD distributor to a steel one on my black GT. I'm tired of doing it the hard way.

I think that its funny that a "MacTools" car is getting worked on with Snap-On tools

so what's the way of doing this without that tool? I was hoping to swap my Essy bronze gear over to either my distributor, or a new rebuilt one this weekend.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

I would guess you would use some imagination...maybe a small rubber mallet and an open end wrench and tap lightly (be sure to remove the roll-pin first!)...hopefully it'll come off easily. What would scare me is putting it back on and getting it in the right position. If you happen to miss the mark and smack the gear you'll e spending some $$. I really recommend the tool....rent it somewhere if you can if you dont want to buy it...it'll save you the $$ and heartache from ruining the gear
