  • suspension differences???

i have owned more than 10 5.0L mustangs and built countless others for freinds and customers but still dont own an svo.i'm working on that problem. what is different? on the front i can guess the spindles with a different geometry. i am just talking in general. rear has to be almost the same.i am not talking about the five lug abd rear disc setup. of course i will be wrong when the replies come in. thanks, troy

    In a nutshell...

    Front Suspension:

-control arms (about 1 inch longer, larger ball joint, forged steel)
-front struts (Koni adjustable struts, unique to the SVO)
-upper strut mounts (onion head type)
-spindle (from Lincoln, more ackermann steering geometry)
-crossmember (different control arm mounting points, has mounts for engine dampers)
-brake caliper (single piston, phenolic 73 mm)
    -5 bolt rotor (5 X 4.5") about 11" diameter
-front springs of different rate and length
-front sway bar 30 mm diameter, longer than Fox sway bars
-15:1 ratio rack and pinion steering rack with matching PS pump on later SVOs

    Rear Suspension:

-lower rear control arms (round front bushings, stiffer durometer rubber)
-upper rear control arms (harder durometer bushing)
-Koni quad shock (late 84 to 86) or hop bars (early 84)
    -Koni adjustable rear shocks
-17 mm diameter rear sway bar
    -rear disc brakes, about 11" diameter, 5 bolt (5 X 4.5")
-7.5 inch rear end, 3.45 or 3.73 gear ratio
-1.25" longer axles than Fox body
    -springs matching the front rate

    Wheels

    -16 X 7" 5 bolt (5 X 4.5") aluminum wheel, unique offset
-Goodyear 225/50/16 tires, NCT or Gatorback
