  • SVOEric's Silver 86 1E

Bought this car off the internet back in Februrary of 1999, just saw the pics, talked to the owner. Flew to Arizona, put new tires on it, and drove it home 1170 miles.

went through several months of re-work...

    engine re-built, and installed

current pic with Motorsport B springs.

    My car is pretty simple.

    Engine:
Super-cheapo boost valve, set at ~18 psi
(set at about 12 psi when auto-x-ing, or I can't keep traction, time for new tires!)
    MSD Blaster coil
    ranger roller cam
stock bottom end (with arp fasteners)
big valve head, with VERY MINOR back-yard porting
    Gator Ported lower intake
Gator Ported upper intake (not gutted)
    stock throttle body
    STOCK 86 turbo
    Ported E6 exhaust manafold
    stock elbow
    3 inch down-pipe,
3 inch into two 2.5 inch mufflers (hooker aerochambers)
2.5 inch tails (magnaflow stainless tails)
I've swapped back and forth between my stock IC, and a turbocoupe IC,.

    Suspension
    Stock brakes
    Motorsport B springs
Probe Application wheels ( I expect I will be putting race tires on these rims this year, and running stock svo wheels with street tires)
    Earls stainless brake hoses

This is probably as far as I will go with this car. not that it's too nice to mod too far, but becasue I intend to keep it fairly stock, and drive the crap out of it!

The car is ready to be painted again, as it has sat outside most of the time, and the paint is starting to peel. that's probably a 2010 project.

      After shots.....

about 3 hours of wire-brushing, by hand, and with wire-brush on a drill, then me, and the oldest son (12) with spray-cans.

Something that's been bugging me since the paint 8 years ago.... I finally got around to fixing half of today....
For some reason, the bolts, and clips behind them on the fenders have been rusting. I painted them when I put it together, but for some reason, they just kept on rusting...

here's before and after.... (even tho it's a left side and right side)

When I get both sides finished, I'll paint the shock towers, and put on my MM caster camber plates, and my strut-tower brace

Have to get a special thanks to Roberto2000, even if he is a northern guy, he hooked me up with the bolts I used here.... FYI, DON'T order the replacment fender bolts from 5.0 resto, they are wrong.

can we say EASIEST INSTALL EVER!! Took like 3 minutes to install this.
course I Haven't bled the brakes yet, and haven't removed my stock prop valve yet (that's scheduled later in the day) but man, this was a breeze...

I'll be making a bracket to mount to, to keep it from bouncing around.

Eric - Why'd you go with a manual prop valve? Did you switch to Cobra rear brakes or something?

nope, the stock prop valve liked to feed my rear brakes too much juice, which caused really interesting auto-x and emergency stopping issues.

And since stock prop-valves for SVO's are made of either pure gold or unobtainimum, I just chose to go aftermarket, with something that's new, and known to work.

EDIT: Guess I need to update again... New wheels were put on 2-days before the reunion.
